Terms of Use

The conditions for using consens.io, where agreed when creating an account. Statutory rights remain unaffected.

1. What consens.io is

consens.io sends your query to several third-party AI language models in parallel, shows their answers side by side, and can generate a consolidated consensus answer. The service is operated by the provider named in the Imprint (the "operator"). It is currently a free, non-commercial project. Features and usage limits are described in the app. AI results have the limitations explained below; this does not exclude mandatory statutory rights.

2. Processing by third-party AI providers

Your request is processed through OpenRouter and its inference/search endpoints. The available model families include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, xAI, DeepSeek, Moonshot AI/Kimi, Z.ai/GLM and Meta. A model's developer and its actual hosting provider can differ. Consensus, evaluation, context and Memory features may use additional configured models; Watches and API runs use a server-selected configuration. Deselecting one comparison model does not exclude all processing by that company or country.

Our inference calls request ZDR routing, but this does not cover web-search tools or every kind of operational metadata. Processing can occur outside the EU/EEA, including in the USA, Singapore or China, depending on the endpoint. See the Privacy Notice for data flows, saved conversations and international transfers.

Do not submit secrets, sensitive personal data or third-party personal data without authority. Acceptance of these terms is not data-protection consent or a waiver of your rights. Our own responsibility for lawful processing remains unaffected.

3. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 16 years old to use consens.io. If you are under 18, obtain your parent's or legal guardian's permission where required to enter into this agreement.
  • One account per person. Do not create additional accounts to circumvent usage limits.
  • Keep your credentials secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. Responsibility for misuse is determined by applicable law; you are not automatically liable for every action performed through your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app settings; this starts deletion of your account data, conversations, bookmarks, Watches and shared pages. Failed cleanup steps are retried as described in the Privacy Notice.

4. AI-generated content

All answers, consensus texts, and difference analyses are generated by AI models. They can be wrong, incomplete, outdated, or misleading, even when several models agree. Agreement between models is a signal, not a guarantee of correctness. Outputs are not professional advice; do not rely on them for medical, legal, financial, or other decisions with serious consequences without independent verification.

Your use of model outputs may also be subject to the usage policies of the respective AI provider.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for unlawful purposes or to generate unlawful content;
  • attempt to circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or access controls, or to disrupt or overload the service;
  • submit content that infringes the rights of others, including personal data of third parties without a legal basis;
  • access the service with automated tools at abusive volume.

We may take proportionate action against violations, considering their severity and recurrence. Where feasible, we explain the reason and allow you to respond or correct the issue. Immediate restrictions may be necessary for security or unlawful content. You can contact us to request a review; mandatory notice and complaint rights remain unaffected.

6. Quotas, features, and your own API keys

  • The service is currently provided free of charge while it is being tested. There is no checkout, no price, and no paid plan at this time. Any future paid access requires a separate, express agreement about the price and terms. Existing free use never automatically becomes a paid subscription.
  • Usage is subject to the limits displayed for your account. Limits may be adjusted prospectively for capacity, security or provider-cost reasons, taking users' reasonable interests into account. Account usage counters can persist across server restarts.
  • Features labelled "Pro" or similar are simply the more expensive runs. They are enabled manually for individual accounts, cannot currently be purchased, and are subject to the limits and availability described in the app. Mandatory rights remain unaffected.
  • If you store your own OpenRouter API key, it is saved in your browser and transmitted through our server to OpenRouter with each request. OpenRouter then routes requests to the selected underlying model provider. You are responsible for the costs and the security of your key, and should review the applicable OpenRouter and provider terms.
  • Administrator-issued Consensus API runs and Scheduled Publisher/Watch runs use server-configured model sets through OpenRouter. The actual recipients depend on those configurations and routing; there is no general EU-only processing guarantee.
  • Consensus API questions and results are stored for asynchronous retrieval and idempotency with a 30-day expiry after acceptance, followed by periodic cleanup. A client may delete a completed run earlier; deleting a run does not undo processing already performed by model providers.

7. Public sharing of consensus answers

Logged-in users can publish a consensus answer as a public, read-only page ("shared page"). Publishing your private conversation requires your Share action or an explicit publishing request through the API. Separately, operator-configured Scheduled Publisher and Topic runs can publish AI-generated material automatically. Private conversation storage is not public sharing.

  • A shared page contains the question, the consensus answer, the differences analysis, the list of sources, and the names of the AI models consulted as a snapshot at the time of sharing. It does not display your account profile or account ID. However, personal information that appears in your question or the generated content will also become public.
  • By creating a shared page you confirm that the question and any content you contributed to it do not infringe third-party rights (including copyright and privacy rights) and are not unlawful.
  • You can revoke any of your shared pages at any time under "My shared links"; revoked pages immediately stop being publicly available.
  • We may remove (block) shared pages that violate these terms or applicable law, and we may limit the number of pages a user can create per day. Search-engine indexing of shared pages is disabled by default and can be enabled for selected pages through operator-controlled publication and indexing settings, including the Scheduled Publisher.

Every shared page offers a "Report this page" function that can be used without an account. Reports are stored only as an anonymous counter per reason (for example "inaccurate", "harmful", "spam"); we do not store the reporter's IP address, browser data, or any other personal data with a report. Repeated reports automatically remove a page from search-engine indexing until we have reviewed it. For a specific notice of unlawful content, email the exact URL and an explanation to contact@consens.io. We assess sufficiently specific notices and take the measures required by law; the quick counters do not replace this contact route.

8. Content and rights

You retain any rights you hold in your prompts. You grant the operator the right to process your prompts and attachments as needed to operate the service, including transmission to the selected AI providers. You grant only the non-exclusive rights needed to provide the requested service and, if you choose publication, to display that content publicly until revocation. Existing third-party rights remain unaffected. We do not promise that AI outputs are unique, protected by copyright or free of third-party rights.

9. Warranty and liability

Statutory liability applies. In particular, these terms do not exclude or limit liability for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or liability that cannot legally be excluded, including applicable data-protection rights. Mandatory consumer rights and any applicable statutory rights for digital products remain unaffected.

AI outputs can be incorrect and the service can experience outages. These descriptions of technical limitations are not an exclusion of statutory warranty or liability.

10. Termination

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may end the free service or individual features for operational reasons, taking users' legitimate interests into account and giving reasonable advance notice where feasible. Immediate restrictions or termination for serious misuse, security incidents or legal requirements remain possible. Mandatory termination, notice and data-access rights remain unaffected.

11. Changes to these terms

We may propose updated terms for changed features or legal requirements. Changes to an existing agreement require your agreement where required by law. Merely posting a new version, your silence or continued use is not treated as consent to a contractual change. New paid services always require a separate express agreement.

12. Final provisions

German law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules; mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected. If individual provisions of these terms are invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect. For how we handle personal data, see the Privacy Notice.
