1. What consens.io is
consens.io sends your query to several third-party AI language models in parallel, shows their answers side by side, and can generate a consolidated consensus answer. The service is operated by the provider named in the Imprint (the "operator"). It is currently a free, non-commercial project provided as is, without any guaranteed availability, response quality, or support.
2. Processing by third-party AI providers
This is the most important thing to understand about consens.io: when you send a query, your prompt and any attachments are transmitted to the AI providers behind the models you select. Depending on your selection, these are OpenAI (USA), Anthropic (USA), Google (USA), Mistral AI (France), xAI (USA), and DeepSeek (People's Republic of China). Each provider processes your content under its own terms and privacy policy, and this may include processing outside the EU/EEA, including in countries without an EU adequacy decision, such as China when you use DeepSeek models.
By using consens.io and selecting models, you instruct us to transmit your content to the selected providers and you accept this processing. If you do not want your content to reach a particular provider, deselect its models before sending a query. Do not enter personal data, secrets, or confidential information in prompts.
3. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 16 years old to use consens.io.
- One account per person. We may technically enforce this, for example with an IP-based check.
- Keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app settings; this removes your account data, bookmarks, and any shared pages you created.
4. AI-generated content
All answers, consensus texts, and difference analyses are generated by AI models. They can be wrong, incomplete, outdated, or misleading — even when several models agree. Agreement between models is a signal, not a guarantee of correctness. Outputs are not professional advice; do not rely on them for medical, legal, financial, or other decisions with serious consequences without independent verification.
Your use of model outputs may also be subject to the usage policies of the respective AI provider.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the service for unlawful purposes or to generate unlawful content;
- attempt to circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or access controls, or to disrupt or overload the service;
- submit content that infringes the rights of others, including personal data of third parties without a legal basis;
- access the service with automated tools at abusive volume.
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
6. Quotas, features, and your own API keys
- Free usage is subject to quotas and rate limits that we may change at any time. Quotas may reset, for example when the server restarts.
- Features labelled "Pro" or similar are feature previews. No paid services are currently offered, and no feature or quota constitutes a promised entitlement.
- If you store your own provider API keys, they are saved in your browser and transmitted through our server to the respective provider with each request. You are responsible for the costs and the security of your keys.
7. Public sharing of consensus answers
Logged-in users can publish a consensus answer as a public, read-only page ("shared page"). Creating a shared page is always an explicit, opt-in action; nothing is published automatically.
- A shared page contains the question, the consensus answer, the differences analysis, the list of sources, and the names of the AI models consulted — as a snapshot at the time of sharing. It does not contain your name, e-mail address, or any other account data, and it is not publicly linked to your account.
- By creating a shared page you confirm that the question and any content you contributed to it do not infringe third-party rights (including copyright and privacy rights) and are not unlawful.
- You can revoke any of your shared pages at any time under "My shared links"; revoked pages immediately stop being publicly available.
- We may remove (block) shared pages that violate these terms or applicable law, and we may limit the number of pages a user can create per day. Search-engine indexing of shared pages is disabled by default and is only enabled for selected pages after a manual review by us.
Every shared page offers a "Report this page" function that can be used without an account. Reports are stored only as an anonymous counter per reason (for example "inaccurate", "harmful", "spam"); we do not store the reporter's IP address, browser data, or any other personal data with a report. Repeated reports automatically remove a page from search-engine indexing until we have reviewed it. There is no obligation to act on every report, but we review reported pages with priority.
8. Content and rights
You retain any rights you hold in your prompts. You grant the operator the right to process your prompts and attachments as needed to operate the service, including transmission to the selected AI providers. Rights in model outputs are governed by the terms of the respective AI provider.
9. Warranty and liability
consens.io is provided free of charge. To the extent permitted by law, the operator is liable without limitation only for intent (Vorsatz) and gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit), as well as for injury to life, body, or health. For slight negligence, the operator is liable only for the breach of essential contractual obligations (Kardinalpflichten), limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of free service. There is no warranty for availability, freedom from errors, or the accuracy of AI-generated content. Liability under mandatory statutory provisions remains unaffected.
10. Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. The operator may discontinue, change, or restrict the service or individual features at any time, and may terminate or suspend accounts for cause, in particular for violations of section 5.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when features change or legal requirements demand it. The current version is always available at this address with the date below. If you continue to use the service after an update, the updated terms apply.
12. Final provisions
German law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules; mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected. If individual provisions of these terms are invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect. For how we handle personal data, see the Privacy Notice.
